Glenda Gebert is the owner of Garden in the Woods located in Bear Rocks, Acme, PA. She has had a love of flowers since she was a little girl planting flowers alongside her mom in the gentle rain.
Retired from Westinghouse in 2011 after working there 40 years, she has an undergraduate and master’s degree in Business/Marketing from Seton Hill University. Glenda is a member of the Mt. Pleasant Area Garden Club, Connellsville Area Garden Club and Greensburg Garden Center and the former Harrold Area Garden Club.
Garden in the Woods is tucked in on two acres in the Bear Rocks Community. The unique property has stone walls filled with succulents in the warm months and extensive gardens with meandering paths. The home was on the Greensburg Garden Center’s Garden Tour in 2017.
Garden in the Woods was officially formed in November 2018 after Glenda’s husband built her a “she shed” with heating and air conditioning so it was able to handle projects all year round. The name came from a rustic sign her husband made – “Glenda’s Garden in the Woods.”
The first business event was December 2018 Christmas in the Mountains craft show at the Bear Rocks Community Center, where Glenda sold fresh green wreaths, kissing balls, pinecone suet feeders and snowmen from socks. Next came Greensburg Garden Center’s May Mart in 2019 where painted pinecone wreaths, succulents in unique planters, hanging wire baskets & live wreath forms, suet feeders made by her husband and tomato plants grown from seed were sold. During this event she was approached about doing a class on making pinecone wreaths and living wreaths.
2019 was a learning and growing experience. Classes included pinecone wreaths, living wreaths, cement leaves made from elephant ears, succulents on pumpkins were held, and talks to garden clubs & women groups on how to make these items. Her husband added a greenhouse to the garden house for the final piece.
Now there is plenty of room to work year round and grow more gardens. Welcome to Glenda’s Garden in the Woods.
